Charles Clarke MP is being disingenuous when he states that he has no impact on the planning process. We found as RAID that Charles Clarke was very heavily involved, lobbying the DfES, talking to the developers etc, in the plans (which he fully supported) to sell off the Hewett playing fields to a consortium of private developers. See also his published comments in the Evening News. So Mr Clarke certainly knows all about the City College plans and will be active behind the scenes to bring them off.

A note to let everyone know just how hard the committe and others have been working behind the scenes. We now have a forum to air our concerns and seek a way forward. So please let us all get behind them. Thank you to all the committee and well done.
Good luck to everybody
Committee Widow
I think you'll find that MPs are specifically prohibited from interfering in the planning process by the rules set by Parliament. Whilst they have a duty to keep themselves informed and to listen to their constituents, it would seem that Mr Clarke is in fact simply abiding by the rules in this letter.
